“A Grand Tour…Holiday in Europe” – Christmas at King Caesar
The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society’s annual holiday event, “Christmas at King Caesar,” will take place over the weekend of December 9-11, 2016. This year the stately rooms of the King Caesar House will be decorated in the theme of “A Grand Tour…Holiday in Europe.”
Now in its 45th year, “Christmas at King Caesar” kicks off the holiday season for many DRHS Members as well as residents of the South Shore and beyond. Under the direction of event co-chairs Joy Bannon, Sarah Macdonald, Liz Prudente and Siobhan Roggenkamp, volunteer decorators from all over the region come together to adorn the Federal-style mansion with holiday trim and décor, transporting visitors to the days of travel via sailing ship, steam and rail.
Popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, “A Grand Tour,” allowed travelers to experience art and culture from around the world and this gave birth to modern tourism. Celebrating this tradition, each decorator will select a European country and mix items that represent that country’s culture and geography with traditional holiday decorations in every room of the house…resulting in a holiday event that will blend the culture of the world with our own Duxbury heritage.
More volunteers are always needed. Please call (781) 934- 6106 if you would like to decorate a space.
