Irish in the American Civil War Lecture

$20.00$25.00

Dr. Patrick Browne will discuss the pivotal role of Irish immigrants in the American Civil War. Focusing on several key individuals as well as Irish units, Browne will delve into the compelling stories of resilience and determination as Irish men, despite facing strong prejudice, demonstrated their commitment to their adopted homeland. Browne will also explore a darker side of the war as Irish immigrants protested, often violently, against the draft and the notion of a “rich man’s war but a poor man’s fight.” This lecture will unravel the complexities of their experiences, shedding light on the impact these immigrants had on shaping the course of the Civil War.

This event will take place in the Merry Room at the Duxbury Free Library on Thursday, March 28th at 6pm.
