Book Club at the Beach

We are excited to announce our next book club offering: The Widow’s War by Sally Gunning.

Join Carolyn Ravenscroft in a discussion of Sally Gunning’s The Widow’s War. When Lyddie Berry refused to give up her home and independence, she took on the limits placed on women in colonial America. Her story echoes what many women faced in Duxbury where widows were often left with only a portion of the homes they once called their own.

The Allen Property consists of 13 acres of waterfront property on the southern end of ‘the Nook’.  It was donated to the DRHS in 2000 by Rosamunde Allen.  The property is accessed by a dirt road located at 28 Crescent Street.  There will be parking available on the dirt access road.  Unfortunately, this is not an easily accessible beach for some.  There is a steep driveway and stairway down to the beach.  If you are able to make the walk, the beach is beautiful and worth the effort.  There is no bathroom facility on the property.  We suggest bringing a beach chair and a water bottle filled with your favorite drink!  Staff members will be stationed at the entrance (28 Crescent Street) to help guide attendees to the correct parking location.  Another staff member will be stationed in the parking area to direct attendees to the beach.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have by calling the office at (781)934-6106 or emailing Susie Uitti at suitti@duxburyhistory.org

There is no charge for this event but space is limited to provide for a proper discussion.  Please click the button below to register.
