Tuesday, September 22, 5pm—Dr. John Wadsworth and Colonial Era Medecine Talk with Carolyn Ravenscroft
Drew Archival Library, 147 St. George St
Join Archivist & Historian Carolyn Ravenscroft for an exploration of colonial medicine through the remarkable handwritten medical notebook of Revolutionary-era Duxbury physician Dr. John Wadsworth. Compiled in 1755, the notebook contains recipes for pills, elixirs, plasters, poultices, and remedies for ailments both familiar and mysterious. Using this extraordinary manuscript as a guide, the lecture examines how physicians diagnosed and treated illness in eighteenth-century New England.
