Compiled in 1755, the notebook contains recipes for pills, elixirs, plasters, poultices, and remedies for ailments both familiar and mysterious. Using this extraordinary manuscript as a guide, the lecture examines how physicians diagnosed and treated illness in eighteenth-century New England.
