Voyages: 1853-1857
Ship: Levanter
Louise C. Sampson was born in Duxbury, the daughter of Perez H. Sampson and Sally Weston. In 1828 she married Capt. William Peterson (1820-1900) of Powder Point, Duxbury. Between 1853-1857 she voyaged aboard the Levanter to Asia, bringing their young daughter Helen May Peterson. Louisa died in 1857 from complications in childbirth while at home in Duxbury. After her death, Capt. Peterson remarried twice (see Hannah Ford Peterson and Jane Bolde Peterson) and continued to take his daughter to sea. Helen May Peterson’s reminiscence of her life details much of her parents’ voyages as well as her own travels with her husband, Capt. Frederick C. Bailey.
