Little is known of Maria Phenie other than she was a young French woman. She married Capt. Otis Winsor, Jr. in France in 1847 and then voyaged with him to New Orleans, LA. She died aboard the Deucalian of yellow fever while still in New Orleans on Aug. 15, 1847. She is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Kington, MA. Capt. Otis Winsor, Jr. and his second wife, Mary Alden Holmes Baker, named a daughter for her, Mary Phena Baker. Mary Alden Holmes Baker is also on this list.
